REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of da'wah and community development commission Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Cholil Nafis said MUI has not issued any decision on Sukmawati Soekarnoputri case over her controversial poetry titled :Ibu Indonesia: (Indonesian mother). He admitted MUI also has not stated its religious attitude.
"Actually, MUI has not issued any decision regarding the Islamic legal status of the contents of the poetry and there is no MUI religious attitude because to issue a decision that MUI needs to further study the case," said Kiai Cholil on Sunday (April 8).

Meanwhile, earlier MUI chairman KH Ma'ruf Amin said MUI focused on reconciling the Muslims. Moreover, Sukmawati has apologized to all Muslims for her controversial poem.
Kiai Ma'ruf also hoped Indonesian Muslims to accept Sukmawatis apology. He said MUI would mediate the case if needed and called on the people who have filed police report against the daughter of Indonesian 1st president Soekarno to revoke the reports and put forward clarification and discussion in solving dispute between Muslims.
Furthermore, Kiai Ma'ruf said unlike blasphemy case involving former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), MUI would not issue a fatwa on Sukmawati's case. The fatwa would only be issued if Sukmawati did not learn the lesson.
"She has apologized and admit her mistake, but if she challenges, we will issue a fatwa," Kiai Maruf said.
