REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said Islamic da’wah in Indonesia has made considerable progress. He saw the sign from the numbers of ulemas who use social medias for da'wah and TV stations that aired Islamic preaching.
“I count the most exciting da’wah is in social medias and in television we have four times or more da’wah shows in average,” JK said on Wednesday (July 4).
JK said the progress of Islamic da’wah also appeared from the social side. For example, it is related to the use of hijab.
He said, currently Muslim women are no longer feel embrassed to wear hijab. Meanwhile, in the past, hijab once became the subject of mocking at schools.
JK said about 80 percent of universities students wear hijab. It showed a remarkable social change among Muslims.
“Many Muslim women wear hijab, but in the past it was not like that, this is an extraordinary social changes,” JK added.
In addition, gambus music has become more common. In fact, in the past this kind of music was only played in villages. According to him, the social changes occured in the society was the result of an increasingly widespread Islamic da'wah.
On other hand, JK assessed Muslim economy was still underdeveloped. Therefore, he encouraged Muhammadiyah as one of Islamic organizations to improve the economic progress of the people through entrepreneurship. As well as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) that also has a big role in advancing the people's economy.
“One of undeveloped things is the entrepreneurship of ummah, so this movement is important and Islamic organizations (Muhammadiyah and NU) have certainly great role,” JK said.
