REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - House of Representatives urges Indonesian government to open an embassy in Ramallah, Palestine, for a real support to the victory of Palestine, a member of Commission 1 in House, Helmy Fauzi, said.

"We have been urging Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open the embassy in Ramallah. It is important as a symbol to the world," Helmy said on Monday.

The embassy was not necessary big, Helmy explained. Instead, the more important thing was important to open diplomatic relationship. "Until now, the South East Asian nations do not have any representatives in Ramallah. Then it becomes a momentum for us to start," he said.

Yet, Helmy appreciates government’s stand to consistently reject the idea to open diplomatic relations with Israel. He admits the strong international pressure to the government to open the relationship with Israel.

Indonesia has a longstanding position to reject diplomatic relations with Israel as the state is regarded as an occupational power on Palestinian land. Indonesian constitution declares that every nation has the right of freedom and liberty.
