REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Government has proposed to increase the Electricity Basic Tariff (TDL) started from the upcoming May, the Minister of Finance Agus Martowardojo, said on Wednesday. The increasing tariff will be applied in several stages.

TDL will rise every three months for nine months. “The TDL will increase three percent every three months for three times,” he said. The price adjustment is inevitable due to the increasing of fuel price in the international market.

The increasing of TDL is started on May 2012 to avoid the time clashing with the increasing of fuel price on April. The electricity subsidies also increase about 50 trillion IDR, from 44.96 trillion IDR to 93.652 trillion IDR.

“If the TDL is increased, there will be implication on the budget. The adjustment should be done by adding subsidies post,” he said.

The proposal for the increasing is on the revised budget 2012. He hopes the decision will come in a month.

Central Board of Statistics (BPS) predicts the 10 percent increasing of TDL for every citizens using 450 kWh power of electricity will contribute to the inflation in the amount of 0.18 percent. Meanwhile, the economist in DBS Research Group, Eugene Leow, said the administered price will give a big impact to the inflation. “We predict the 10 percent increasing of TDL will affect directly on consumer price index. At least the price will increase 0.4 percent,” he said.
