REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia still has homework on agriculture after the government imposed the Minister of Trade Regulation number 30/2012. The regulation on restriction of fruit and vegetable import was enough to facilitate the state’s interest for self-supporting food program, the Chairman of National Horticulture Board, Benny Kusbini, said.

“The regulation is effective to limit the imported products,” Kusbini said on Sunday.

However, the regulation will be ineffective without support from the adequate food supply. He urges the government to boost the competitiveness of local agricultural products by building needed infrastructures.

To reduce Indonesia’s dependence of import, every stake holder should be cooperative in boosting the substitution over imported products. The scarcity can happen should the local productivity is not increased.

He also hopes the stake holder restrain their protest over the restriction. “If the implementation does not fit, we can criticize,” he said.
