Govt finally issues sugar import permits

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government has issued import permits of raw sugar for seven state-owned and private sugar refineries in an amount of up to 173,000 tonnes. Only one state own sugar refinery that still waiting for permission from local government.

"Government has issued all import permits of raw sugar, except for PTPN II, which is still on process. PTPN II will obtain a license for 47,500 tonnes and PTPN IX for 40,000 tonnes," the Director General of Foreign Trade in the Ministry of Trade, Deddy Saleh, said on Monday.

PTPN IX, he said, had not taken its permit yet because the company was still waiting for recommendation from the Governor of East Java. Meanwhile, the Director General of Plantation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Gamal Nasir, said government had issued import recommendation of raw sugar to fill the idle capacity.
