REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Ministry of Education and Cultural supports the establishment of child traditional game museum in order to maintain the local wisdom in the country.

"I hope Indonesia will soon have child traditional game museum and Yogyakarta is considered as an appropriate city for museum establishment," Education and Culture Deputy Minister Windu Nuryanti said here on Sunday.

"Moreover, I hope that the museum could inspire the next generations to care about conserving child traditional games as one of local wisdom in Indonesia," she stated.

Nuryanti said that museum location has not been decided, but the ministry will cooperate through the programme. She noted that a lot of developed and developing countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore have founded toy museum as a means to preserve the culture.

Nuryanti pointed out that the traditional game competition which is usually held only in certain days is not necessary for child traditional game preservation. Museum also can be learning media for children, according to her.

"Childhood is the most critical period for children to be taught about local wisdom and child traditional game plays an important role in that period," she said then added, local wisdom in the traditional game teaches the children many valuable things, such as gratitude, respect and tolerance.
