REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa stated that the government would take a stern measure against the meat cartel perpetrators, who set prices arbitrarily.
"We will crackdown the cartel any time it comes up," Hatta recently.
The minister said that he would conduct a coordination meeting with several related ministers in effort to control the beef price which was still high. "I will hold a coordination meeting and ask the Agriculture Minister Suswono whther or not the beef supply in the country is adequate," Rajasa said.
Trade affairs ministry indicated that the shortage of beef stock has caused highrocketing price of the beef meat. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Farmers Association (HKTI) has urged the government to stabilize the soaring beef price soon without importing the commodity.
"The soaring beef price which reaches Rp90,000 a kg apparently results from a shortage of beef supplies in the market. But this does not mean that the government must import beef and leave beef trade to the market mechanism to deal with the shortage of beef supplies," HKTI Secretary General Fadli Zon said in a press statement released on Friday.
