REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Two teams of experts will investigate the accident in Papua's Freeport mining in which took 28 lives and ten others alive. The teams comprise of Freeport team and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' team.
PT Freeport Indonesia finally evacuated all the victims of collapse at underground facility in Big Gosan mining in Papua after a week of searching.
President and CEO of Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold Inc, Richard C Adkerson said Freeport Indonesia would focus on evaluating underground operations security.
Freeport has formed an investigation team to conduct an evaluation of the collapse in the underground mining facility. The team comprised of experts from Indonesia and abroad. "The team would coordinate with investigation team from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," Adkerson said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik added the team was headed by a senior lecturer from the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). They would investigate if there was an element of intentionally that caused the accident. "They would also tasked to evaluate other underground facilities to prevent similar accident occurs," Wacik said.
