REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOTA - Brazilian media praised Indonesia national football team in a friendly match with Netherlands last Friday. Gazeta Esportiva, a brazilian online media, said many people surprised how Indonesia, sitting in 170th FIFA ranking, could hold the 9th FIFA ranking, Netherlands, in the first 45 minutes.
"Netherlands beat Indonesia only in the second half," said Gazeta Esportiva in its headline. "Coach Luis Van Gaal must change his strategy to beat the host in the second half."
Indonesia coach, Jacksen F. Tiago, admitted that he received congratulation from friends and family in his hometown, Rio de Janeiro. "They said they were impressed by our defence in the second half and also said that it came no surprise if we lose due to our stamina factor," said the Persipura coach to Republika via WhatsApp.
The friendly game drew many attractions from abroad, as more than ten countries broadcasted the match live. Even Sky Sports said two goals from Ajax midfielder, Siem De Jong and another one from Bayern Munich winger, Arjen Robben saved only the Orange after being forced to struggle in the whole game.
