REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Director General of Seasonal Crops in Ministry of Agriculture, Nurnowo Paridjo estimated results of sugarcane rendemen would shrink this year. Impact of weather anomalies still haunted national sugarcane farmers.

"In July 2013, production of crystallized sucrose reached 2.7 million tons, decreased from 2.76 million tons in May," Paridjo said on recently.

Average national yield of sugarcane in July 2013 reached 7.96 percent, decreased from 2.93 percent compared to last May. High rainfall causes sugarcane tree in its vegetative growth instead of producing sugar.

Sugarcane milling season is also estimated to be delayed six until six weeks to August and September. However, Paridho is optimistic that milling target during this year will be achieved despite the decline.

Minister of Agriculture Suswono is optimistic that sugar production can reach 2.58 million tons by the end of the year due to increasing of sugarcane plantation area. However, government will routinely conduct evaluation every three months.
