REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines aims to increase the number of qualified pilots in Indonesia's aviation sector by establishing a training school called "Merpati Pilot School" (MPS), the airline's corporate secretary has said.

"Merpati, through the school, aims to train students to become qualified and ready-for-work pilots," Merpati's corporate secretary, Riswanto, said here on Friday.

Riswanto said the school would offer accredited pilot training programs taught by experienced instructors. The training would qualify students to become pilots at PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines.

He noted that MPS in Surabaya, East Java, was one of the best pilot training schools in Indonesia, and the only one in the country affiliated to an airline company.

"Classroom materials and simulator facilities are provided at Merpati's Training Centers in Jakarta and Surabaya. Flight training is offered in Sumenep and Trunojoyo Airport," he added.

He said the school will train students with no experience to become licensed pilots.
