REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEOUL -- Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand is expected to rise sharply following the existence of new buyers. Vice President of ExxonMobil Gas and Power Marketing, Rob S Franklin explained that the increase in demand in 2040 would be three times higher than today. Hence, LNG producers must prepare gas supply up to 650 million tonnes per year.

"At that time, the demand will be tripled," Franklin said in Seoul as reported by Elba Damhuri.

LNG producers in Asia Pacific must provide at least 75 percent of total global demand supply. The increase is due to high numbers of new buyers, while main producers have not been able to give supply certainty. Several countries in Africa will be new LNG producers but still hampered the infrastructure problems. Therefore, Asian Pacific countries are still the backbone of natural gas suppliers until several decades to come.

Global LNG demand has reached 200 million tonnes per year. In 2025, LNG demand in Asia will be rise two times.
