REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The use of plastic cards (debit and credit card) as payment instruments reached 4.020 trillion IDR through 3.7 billion transactions from 104.6 million cards in 2013. According to Bank Indonesia's data, the value reached 994.4 million IDR from 1.075 trillion transactions and 107.8 million cards in January-March 2014.
Transaction value in 2013 recorded an increase of 100 percent compared to 2010 worth 2.165 trillion IDR through 2.01 billion transactions from 65.213 million cards. Executive Director of the Payment System Policy and Oversight Department at BI, Rosmaya Hadi explained that 20-25 percent of consumers used credit cards, while 40 percent used debit cards.
"It shows an increase in public's banking access," Hadi said in a socialization of consumer protection service payment in Makassar on Saturday.
Therefore, BI recognizes the need to socialize consumer protection service as an effort to provide assurance for consumers who transacting with plastic cards issued by payment service companies.
