REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian cellular provider Telkomsel operates five new Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in Indonesia-Malaysia border. The new stations are considered an effort to maintain the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"Telkomsel does not only see business and economic aspects, but also the unity of Indonesia," Executive Director of Telkomsel Alex J Sinaga said on Tuesday, December 16.

The new BTS are located in Tiong Ohang, Long Layu, Agung Baru, Long Apari and Long Lunuk. Telkomsel now has 41 BTS in along Indonesian border with Malaysia.

"Given the tough field, it is a big challenge to provide telecommunication network in the borders," Sinaga said.

The company has 83,000 BTS in around Indonesia. It can reach up to 97 percent of Indonesian population.
