REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) is setting a target to increase the use of domestic energy by 64 per cent in the next five years.
"We have already managed to help other countries maintain their energy sovereignty, meaning that a lot of our energy resources are exported," Director of Energy Resources, Minerals and Mining, Bappenas Josaphat Primana Rizal, said here on Tuesday (13/1)
According to him, the energy resource whose production should be increased the most is natural gas.
In 2014, as many as 1,224 Barrel Oil Equivalent (BOE) per day were being produced and it will be increased to 1,295 BOE per day by 2019.
Bappenas is planning to build seven terminals to receive LNG. These will be built at six locations, namely Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Banten, Central Java, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.
Currently, Indonesia has only two LNG receiving terminals in Lampung and West Java, both being floating terminals.
"The project is based on the use of domestic gas rising over the last 10 years. About 25 percent of the production was used domestically in 2004, while it has increased to more than 54 percent in 2014," Rizal said.
In addition, Bappenas will build 78 natural gas filling stations (SPBG) and 912,000 house connections for city gas network to improve the accessibility of energy resources, which are all expected to be achieved by 2019.
Rizal said the efficiency of fuel consumption is becoming the board's main program.
Currently, 70 percent of Indonesia's coal production is exported and only 30 percent is used domestically.
In the next five years, 60 percent of nation's coal production should be used in the country and the rest will be exported, Rizal said.
