REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government is set to cut the price of subsidized diesel on February 15, 2015.
The new price of diesel will be announced on February 12 or 13, acting director general of oil and gas, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmadja said here on Friday.
"It (the new price) will take effect 2-3 days later," he added.
However, he did not know exactly how much the cut will be as the ministry will evaluate it until February 9.
According to him, the decision to cut the price of diesel on February 15 is in line with the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister's Regulation Number 4 of 2015.
As per the regulation, the prices of subsidized fuels should be revised every two weeks.
"If a new price is introduced now, it will change again on February 15 and the public will get confused," he noted.
After taking several factors into consideration, the government has decided to cut the price of subsidized diesel on February 15, he pointed out.
At a working meeting on Tuesday (February 3) both Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said and the Commission VII of the House of Representatives agreed to lower the price of diesel, which stands at Rp6,400 per liter.
Commission VII has asked the government to lower the price as soon as possible.
Earlier, the government decided to set the price at Rp6,400 per liter, which took effect on February 1.
The price of diesel oil at Rp6,400 per liter remains unchanged compared to the price announced on January 19.
