REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- The Japanese Government is exploring cooperation in the fields of education and fishery with the administration of Maluku province, the Indonesian Consulate General to Japan in Osaka, Wisnu Edi Pratignyo, stated here on Friday.

"We are exploring opportunities in every sector in Maluku, especially in Ambon, which we can offer to Japan," Wisnu noted.

He remarked that one of the Indonesian consulate general's tasks is developing Indonesia's eastern region in accordance with the national program.

Education is the main sector for cooperation that will be offered to Japan, which can lead to more number of Indonesians living in Maluku who have completed their master's degree study in Japan, Wisnu emphasized.

"The Master's degree is preferred as it is offered in English, while the bachelor's degree in Japan is delivered in Japanese, and it takes time to learn the language," he pointed out.

The Pattimura University, located in Ambon will cooperate in the education sector.

In the meantime, in the field of fishery and trading, the cooperation will encompass fish exports to Japan and the construction of a fish auction market in Ambon.

"We can also use Japanese ships to help the local fishermen," Wisnu noted.
