REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANTEN -- President Joko Widodo was optimistic that domestic industry still continues to grow despite global economy weakened. It had been proved by 16 labor-intensive investment projects that are under construction in West Java and Central Java.

"There are many opportunities in our country to be appointed as investments that create jobs," said Jokowi, in Banten, Monday (5/10).

Jokowi stated that the 16 labor-intensive investment projects had been giving optimism in business world. It means, in the middle layoffs issue, there are many other investment projects in the country which will absorb thousands of Indonesian workers.

Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Franky Sibarani, added that the 16 labor-intensive investment companies will absorb Indonesian workers at least 121 thousand people in five years. Currently, some companies even have started employment for 73,885 people.

He said the 16 companies, which are under construction, have an investment plan with a total value of Rp 18.9 trillion. Until September 2015, the total investment has reached Rp 11.4 trillion.

The presence of these labor-intensive industries, said Franky, will also stimulate other economic sectors. He gave an example, when a company absorbs 1,000 workers, the other supporting industries such as catering, transportation and rented houses will also grow.

"Can you imagine the impact that occurs when employment reached 5,000 or 10,000 people?" said Franky.
