REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI -- The government of Bekasi, West Java, intensify cooperation with a number of beef producers in order to meet the quota availability of meat during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 1437 H / 2016.
“The role of slaughter houses in Bekasi today still can not meet the needs of meat consumption in society, so the need for role of the producer is to keep a steady supply of meat," said Deputy Mayor Ahmad Syaikhu Bekasi in Bekasi, on Thursday (16/6).
According to him, they had to cooperate with the suppliers of beef from outside of Bekasi city to assist in providing stocks of beef in order to remain stable during Ramadan and Eid. "Working together suppliers of cattle from outside the city of Bekasi expected the role of slaughter houses in supplying of beef to society to be optimized,” he said.
Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Office of Bekasi City Edi Kadarusman predicted that the demand of beef during Ramadan and Eid will rise about 30 percent from the normal condition. Cattle in Bekasi, he said are only about 200-300 cows which is far from the needs of the people in Bekasi on the consumption of beef.
"Consumption of beef in Bekasi has reach 8 grams per day, whilst on the national level it has reached 10 grams per day," he said.
Local cows consumed in Bekasi comes more from Bali and East Nusa Tenggara with the type of hybrid Ongole cattle that is white and large. Meanwhile, beef imports that was traded in Bekasi today, the majority came from Australia and only sold in certain places, such as mini markets and supermarkets.
