REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- Deputy secretary general of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB) Daniel Johan said a ministry for rural development is needed under the new government.
"Rural development ministry is important as all sources are in rural areas," Daniel Johan said here on Monday.
Rural areas have food security and maritime sovereignty and success in creating quality growth, poverty eradication and development of the real sector would depend on success in rural development, he said.
The main jobs of the ministry are focused in the availability of drinking water, agricultural development and improvement of irrigation, in addition to development of other rural infrastructure, he said.
He said each village will have fund allocation , at least Rp1 billion per year.
Distribution and spending of the fund must be closely controlled under tight coordination, to prevent misuse and corruption, he said.
He said the ministry for backward areas could be merged with the new ministry.
There are still many backward areas in the country, but the ministry of backward area has not been effective, he said.
The new government under president elect Joko Widodo is to be installed in October.
Joko Widodo or better known as Jokowi with Jusuf Kalla as the Vice President elect won the July 9 presidential election defeating the pair of Prabowo Subianto - Hatta Rajasa.
PKB is one of political parties supporting Jokowi.
