REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO - New autonomous areas would be established in North Sulawesi province before the termination of the present administration, a local official said. The process of forming four new autonomous areas would be wrapped up before President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ends his term of office on October 20 this year, a provincial spokesman Jemmy Kumendong said here on Saturday.

Kumendong said Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi had given confirmation about the establishment of the new autonomous areas on the sidelines of a national working meeting at the ministry in Jakarta held on Thursday. He quoted the minister as saying that a ministerial team is discussing with the Commission I and II of the House of Representatives matters concerning the establishment of the new autonomous areas.

Fauzi has passed instruction to the director general of regional autonomy, Djohermansa Johan, to finish the process before the termination of the term of office of the President Yudhoyono.

The four new autonomous areas, which have been approved by the Commission I and II of the House of Representatives are a new province, Bolmong Raya, city administrations Langowan and Tahuna and a new regency Talaud Selatan.
