REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Attorney General Office has set up a special task force to handle and settle corruption cases involving 100 public prosecutors as its members.

Attorney General HM Prasetyo said here on Thursday the task of the special task force is settling old cases as well as the new ones.

"We will immediately respond the public demand with the special task force to settle both old and new cases," he said.

He said he had established the task in view of the increasing number of cases of corruption which has now become a common enemy.

Deputy Attorney General for Special Crime Widyo Pramono has assured that the presence of the unit would not overlap with other units in the AGO.

He said the special task force would even strengthen the performance of the special crime unit especially in dealing with cases of wide public concern.

So, the new unit would not overlap with the other unit as they have all had their own tasks.

"They will answer to the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crime," he said.

He said the prosecutors to be assigned in the special task force would include those who have been assigned at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The AGO has planned to accommodate prosecutors who were once assigned in KPK in view of their experience.

The AGO spokesman, Tony Spontana, said the prosecutors who once worked at the KPK and have now returned to the AGO would be assigned to the special task force.

"I need to clarify that what we meant was we would gather prosecutors who once worked at KPK to strengthen the Special Crime Department in the future," he said.

A total of 94 public prosecutors have so far been assigned at the KPK as directors, heads of bureaus and other functional jobs.
