Minister: Indonesia-Netherlands cooperation still continued

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister of Maritime Indroyono Soesilo ensured that cooperation between Indonesia and Netherlands on Kuala Tanjung Port project in North Sumatera would be continued despite Netherlands recalled its ambassador from Indonesia. Indonesia, represented by PT Pelindo I, cooperates with Dutch investor Port of Rotterdam International to build the port.

"Even though Netherlands recalled its ambassador, its cooperation is Indonesia is still on going," Soesilo said on Wednesday, January 21.

Netherlands recalled its ambassador on Sunday over the execution of Dutchman Ang Kiem Soei. He is one of the six people executed for drugs offences in Indonesia.

Government earlier said that Kuala Tanjung Port is the main point of sea toll project. The port will support Belawan-Medan Port and integrate will Industrial Center in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatera. "Sei Mangkei Industrial Center will focus on palm oil products in order to supply for cargo in Kuala Tanjung Port," he said.

The construction of sea toll road consists of five deep sea ports in Kuala Tanjung, Medan; Tanjung Priok, Jakarta; Tanjung Perak, Surabaya; Makassar; and Sorong, West Papua.

PT Pelindo I and Port of Roterdam will build Kuala Tanjung Port with budget around 400 million USD. The port is expected to support Belawan Port in Medan and integrate with Industrial Area in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatera. "We will extend Belawan-Medan toll road to be Medan-Belawan-Kuala Tanjung-Sei Mangkei toll road," he said.

Government has also prepared the electricity by building power plant in Asahan. Kuala Tanjung is expected to be fully operated in 2018. Government believes that sea toll can decrease logistic cost up to 70 percent.
