REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K) will be maintained as it has a strategic role in updating the data on poverty, according to Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
"We will certainly maintain the existence of TNP2K because it has an important and strategic role to update the data on poverty," the vice president remarked after visiting the TNP2K office here on Tuesday.
During the visit to the TNP2K office, Kalla was accompanied by National Development Planning Minister/National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Chief Andrinof Chaniago, Coordinating Minister for Culture and Human Development Puan Maharani, and Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indra Parawansa.
The vice president noted that the data updated and processed by the TNP2K will then be submitted to the respective ministries for making further policies or decisions.
"If the data refers to social matters, it will be submitted to the Ministry of Social Affairs; if it is related to education, it will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture; and if it is about health, then it will be handed over to the Ministry of Health," Kalla explained.
He asserted that the data from the TNP2K will help the respective ministries to focus their efforts to reduce poverty in accordance with their tasks.
Poverty reduction is the highest development priority of the current administration.
In 2010, a presidential regulation established the TNP2K to coordinate the national poverty reduction strategy and improve the effectiveness of social protection programs.
The TNP2K operates as an "internal think-tank." It is responsible for conducting research, drafting policies and programs, developing a national targeting system, and carrying out monitoring and evaluation.
The TNP2K is accountable to the president and is chaired by the vice president, while its members are the ministers and leaders of institutions related to the field of welfare.
