REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Polda Metro Jaya to cooperate with the Interpol China to uncover cases of online fraud business. During a raid conducted on Wednesday morning, May 6, in Cilandak Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, the police found 33 Chinese citizens as online fraud perpetrators.
Head of Sub Directorate of Crime and violence (Kasubdit Jatanras) of Directorate of general criminal detective (Ditreskrimum), Polda Metro Jaya, Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Herry Heryawan said there are main perpetrators in online business fraud. Herry said the business involving international syndicates and move through the borderless internet network.
"It is cross-country and through the mechanism of the Internet, not the land. Go in the direction of Cyber Crime," Herry in Jalan Kenanga, No. 44 Cilandak Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.
Herry said he had contacted Chinese police and will conduct communication that relevant to the next step. Herry also said the case requires international cooperation between the two countries.
Suspected head of online fraud were composed of several people who came from China and Indonesia. The syndicate operated not only in China but also elsewhere outside the country. However, Herry still reluctant to explain who and how these scams or modus of operandi worked.
"First, we caught the leader, and then later we dismantle all the unmasked," Herry said.
Currently, Polda Metro Jaya still investigated the Chinese citizens which are currently still detained in South Jakarta Immigration Office. It remains unknown whether they will face Indonesian court or will be deported. Therefore, according to Herry, all the victims were in China, the legal law of China deserves to prosecute them.
