REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The name of former Jakarta Governor, Sutiyoso was often linked to cases of human rights violations. However, his position as retired military soldiers expected to enable him to carry out reforms in the institutions under National Intelligence Agency (BIN).

"Sutiyoso was associated with a number of cases, but his position as retired military soldier is good to push BIN reformation," said Chairman of Setara Institute Hendardi, through a press release on Wednesday, June 10.

He said, Sutiyoso could start reformation in BIN institutions through disclosure of Munir case. The case of human rights violation was allegedly involving BIN as an institution. It could be an early indicator of performance for reforming BIN.

According to Hendardi, beside his position as a retired, Bang Yos, his nickname, was well experience in the world of politics as party leader. It could be an asset for his to take position previously held by Marciano Norman.

He also saw future challenges will be very dynamic for the Chairman of Party of Justice and Indonesian Unity (PKPI). Sutiyoso must prove BIN's compliance to the country, Pancasila and the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, not on political parties, nor the power.
