REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government is strengthening the national development planning program to streamline the implementation of infrastructure development projects.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil here on Wednesday explained that the strengthening of the national development plan will help infrastructure projects to run smoothly.

"The idea is to strengthen the engineering design of national development since during this time, the new projects were planned after the launch, and thus, bank loans could not be used to fund the projects, as they were not ready," Djalil explained.

He pointed out that the lack of preparation had led to delays in the tender process of the projects.

"After the program plan is ready, the budget will then be allocated, and thus, the projects will be implemented quickly," he explained.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla held a closed-door meeting at the Vice Presidential office in Jakarta on Wednesday to discuss infrastructure development.

Kalla explained that the meeting is a follow up to last week's meeting that discussed the design of national planning capabilities to improve the direction of development in Indonesia.

"If we want to simultaneously improve the direction of urban development and boost domestic technological capabilities, we must establish a national design center that can be beneficial in various fields," Kalla emphasized.

The vice president affirmed that the nation needs to improve its planning and development schedules in order to expedite the development of infrastructure projects.
