REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- Trigana aircraft type ATR 42 was not an old type of aircraft. This aircraft was made in 1988, but was PT Trigana Air Service in 2005.

"It's a great aircraft, firstly flew in 2005," said the former Minister of Transportation, Jusman Syafii Djamal to ROL, Monday (17/8) night.

At that time, there were 329 units of ATR 42 in PT Trigana Air Service. Because the aircraft was new, the components were also new and it would not cause any problems. Moreover, the captain who rode the aircraft was an experienced pilot.

Djusman said that Sentani to Oksibil could only be passed through the air. The condition of the air was also not easy. Evidently, once there was a plane that also crashed in that area.

“In August 2009, Merpati Twin Otter aircraft that has the same route as Trigana, had also been lost,” he said.

Three days later, the plane was found crashed in the Mount Maoke, Oksibil, at 9,300 meters above sea level.

He explained that there are two things that must be considered in aviation, especially in Oksibil area. Indonesia aviation has to have a standard operating procedures and specific training due to the changes of weather that always happen.

"Ministry of Transportation also must add BMKG weather radar and navigation tools," he added.

Although the Trigana ATR 42 was known to carry money Rp 6.5 billion, Djusman believed that there was no sabotage in the accidents related to the money.

“I know the Basarnas team who had experienced in evacuating Air Asia, will be able to evacuate the Trigana ATR 42 in a short time,” he said.
