REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Based on observations of Modis satellite on Tuesday (7/9), there were 413 hotspots in Sumatra. A total of 170 of them were in Jambi.

"Air pollution standard index in Jambi was 216, it means very unhealthy," said Head of Data Information and Public Relations National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in a press release, Monday (7/9).

The visibility was only about 600 meters (horizontal) and 90 meters (vertical) due to thick smog. There were no commercial planes arrived or departed at Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi.

Water bombing with two helicopters of BNPB could not be done because of the short visibility. He said that water aircraft tractor from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry was planned to be shifted to Jambi.

"This would be done when Sultan Thaha Airport can be opened for aircraft landing," he added.

The local Health Department has distributed 22,400 masks in Jambi. The ministry has also been encouraging the plantation companies to cooperate with the task force team to extinguish fires.

The extinguishing process was carried out in Muaro Jambi (Kumpeh, Sungai Gelam, Kumpeh Hulu, Londrang), West Tanjung Jabung (Beram Hitam Kiri), East Tanjung Jabung (Dendang, Nipah Panjang, Tahura and Berbak National Garden).

Plantation Office has also been encouraging the plantation companies to remove the device and will collaborate with the land task force team. Ground operation itself was carried out in the district of Muara Jambi (districts Kumpeh, Sungai Gelam, Kumpeh Hulu, Londrang), District of Tanjabbar (districts Beram Black Left), East Tanjung Jabung (District of Dendang, Nipah Panjang, Tahura around the headland, and Garden National Berbak.

Unfortunately, the process was hampered by some obstacles, such as lack of water source and lack of equipment.
