REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State Intelligence Agency (BIN) claimed to have strong cyber defense agency. Head of BIN, Sutiyoso, said the government does not need to form a cyber agency, because BIN already have core of cyber agency in Directorate of Mayangkara.

"We already have the core. We are able to perform cyber defense," said Sutiyoso in the parliament complex, Thursday (10/9).

Sutiyoso added, the formation of a cyber agency by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security was only still a plan. It means that there is no certainty. The Ministry should be considered whether Indonesia requires cyber agency.

He said, by forming a new agency, there will be a waste of budget. However, if the cyber agency's function is given to BIN, then the cyber defense of BIN can be more upgraded.

"I thing, the government don't have to be wasteful by forming new agency," he added.

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Asril Hamzah Tanjung, said the government should pay attention to BIN's structural. It was because BIN already have a directorate that specifically focus on cyber issues.

"Ministry of Communication and Information and Ministry of Foreign Affairs agree that the cyber defense can be managed by BIN," he said.
