REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) stated that it has been able to make aircraft, even VVIP class for the presidency. The statement was delivered by PR Staff of PT DI, Kerry Apriawan, related to purchasing policies of AW-101 helicopters from Italy.
PT DI could make VVIP class helicopters, because since 2008, PT DI had created EC-725 helicopter that has been widely used by other heads of state. In this case, PT DI has been working with Airbus Military.
"EC-725 helicopter has been used at least by 32 heads of state around the world. In every unit of EC-725 helicopter, PTDI involved in the manufacture of fuselage (body) and the tail boom (tail)," he said, Tuesday (1/12).
EC-725 helicopter was believed not to require additional investment because this aircraft was the development of the Super Puma helicopter which has been used for Indonesian president and vice president.

Kerry also said, PT DI supported the planned of purchasing any aircraft for the president. However, he warned that the government needs to look at the Act No. 16 of 2012 on the defense industry.
"In this rule, the government should purchase domestic products," he added.
