REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- West Kalimantan depends on supplies from other regions for 70 percent of its poultry feed requirement, a local official said.
Head of the West Kalimantan animal husbandry and animal health service Abdul Manaf Mustafa said the heavy dependence on supplied from other regions resulted in high price of poultry feed in the province.
Mustafa said West Kalimantan needs around 560,000 tons of poultry feed a year and 70 percent of which is supplied from other regions.
"This problem needs serious addressing and steps have to be made to increase feed production especially production of corn grains in the province," he said here on Saturday.
He said West Kalimantan have so far relied mainly on East Java and Lampung for additional supplies of poultry feed.
High price of feed resulted in higher price of chicken meat in the province.
