REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOJONEGORO -- Torrential rains resulted in big floods with Bengawean Solo river sending water to put more than a hundred hectares of rice fields deep under water in Bojonegoro, East Java over the past two days.
Head of the Bojonegoro sub-district administration Subiyono said rice fields were hit by floods in the villages of Cangaan feared to destroy the 60-day old crops.
In addition, corn field around 45 hectares are also submerged by the flood water from the biggest and longest river in Java, Subiyono said here on Friday.
"Hopefully the water would go down soon that the crop could still be safe , otherwise we could suffer harvest failure this year," he said.
Meanwhile, people of the village of Piyak in the sub-district of Kanor, are working together to repair damaged Kali Mengkuris dyke hoping to reduce the flooding, he said.
The dyke needs repair after damage cause by rain triggered landslides that holds the water from the Mengkuris river to flow to the Bengawan Solo river.
