Minister explains Indonesia citizen detained Philippines pirates

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Defense Gen. (ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu said one of the cause Indonesian citizen hostages by Philippines pirates because during this time the military has never conduct joint patrols with the Philippines. Ryamizard said it is also a barrier for Indonesia to rescue the citizen.

Ryamizard said the current group of 10 citizens who are held captive pirates Abu Sayff already in the Philippines. However, Indonesia alone can not do anything before the Philippine give permission to go in and rescue.

"We just wait word from there. TNI here is ready for everything. But, we can not just go in," Ryamizard said on Tuesday.

Ryamizard said in the future he would try to open communication with the Philippines in order to create good communication. So, anything happened either in two countries will be resolved quickly.

"It is because we do not ever collaborate with Philippines. I already said it many times," Ryamizard said.
