Child prostitution ring spreads in Indonesia two big cities

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa suspected child prostitution ring existed in Surabaya (East Java) and Bandung (West Java). Her ministry has already coordinated with Indonesian police to reveal the network.

"Beside in Bogor (West Java), we also find two other networks suspected as underage male gay prostitution in Surabaya and Bandung. This information has been conveyed to the police," she said to Republika.co.id in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/6).

Based on the ministry investigation, Khofifah added, there were a number of spots in both cities alleged to be gay prostitution. She did not mention the area in detail. "The police are now plunging into the area," she said.

Previously, the number of victim of the sexual exploitation of children in Bogor based network increased from 99 to 148 people. Police had set three suspects, naming them through their initials AR, U, and E. They used online gay dating app and Facebook to run their prostitution ring.

AR is a pimp who traded 148 children as sex worker, while U is known to "own" four children. In this network, E acts as a treasurer who opened bank account and collect money from AR online prostitution business. "E also recruit children to be submitted to AR," said Director of Special Economic Crime Criminal Investigation Police, Brigadier General Agung Setya, at Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Monday (9/5).
