'Don't get easily provoked by social media content'

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said recently there were many provocative content spreading at the social media. He asked the people not to get easily provoked. "People should not be affected by certain posts at social media." Tito said after attended the World Peace Forum 6th in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/2).

Regarding the November 4th rally, Tito asked the people not to be anarchist. He also ordered the protesters to pay attention to law on demonstration which stipulated in Law No. 9 of 1998 on Freedom of Expression in Public and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) of the United Nations (UN).

There were at least four corridors that should be adhered to. The demonstration should not disrupt other people's rights, disrupt public order, promoting ethics and morals, and maintain the unity of the nation. "Police and the Army will oversee the demo, but we asked the protesters to understand the four corridors," said Tito.

He believed if the people were not easily provoked and social media user mind their content published on their website, then the protest will run safely. Tito has ordered the police to take action against the provocateurs who triggered the demonstrators into violence.

Tito also hoped especially to the ranks of Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to secure the rally. Muslims planned to hold demonstration against religious blasphemy by Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama. He said Alquran surah Al Maidah verse 51 as a false guidance for Muslim in choosing a leader. He also stated ulama who cited it as a liar.
