REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) Albertus Patty said the dissolvement of mass organizations should be done with long term observation.

He mentioned the ban on HTI as example. He heard government has been observing HTI for a long time.

"Since the Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) on mass organizations (Perppu) No.2 of 2017 on Mass Organizations has been applied to the Muslims, to be fair, it will be continued with other religions. But, it must be through an appropriate research," Albertus comments on the discourse to ban Jehovah's Witnesses as one of the sects of the Christian religion.

Albertus said, personnaly he disagreed with the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses. But, as a fellow Indonesian, he respected the teachings as a belief.

In their website, jw.org, Jehovah's Witnesses stated Jesus is not Almighty God and that there is no Scriptural basis for the Trinity doctrine.

"Although we do not agree with the teaching, Jehovah's Witnesses does not deserve to be dissolved. It is just a belief. They are doing nothing since the sect is not a political party. It's a psychological problem," he said  to Republika.co.id, on Thursday (July 27).

Albertus said HTI carried political platform. "I have never heard Jehovah's Witnesses members anti-Pancasila, rejecting the flag. If they did, then they are not worth to be kept. Let them be disbanded. It's ok," he said.
