REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian was reluctant to comment on the plan to establish a special anti-corruption detachment (Densus Tipikor) in the police.
"Regarding Densus Tipikor, I would not explain in a situation like this because it has to be explained comprehensively," he stated when doorstopped by reporters at Police Science College on Thursday (October 19).
Tito prefered to focused on preparation of Densus Tipikor establishment by coordinating with competent authorities.
"This afternoon, I will have a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Political Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto to explain about Densus Tipikor," he said.
Tito asked the media not to extend the polemic against the plan to establish Densus Tipikor.
"Do not compete my comment with other's comment which was not represent his complete perspective," he reiterated.
Previously, Tito stressed that the establishment of Densus Tipikor was not meant to outshine Corruption Eradication Commission. However, it rather to boost its capacity to handle graft cases.
National Police's plan to establish Densus Tipikor did not seem to run smoothly. Moreover, Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) has expressed his objection to the process of forming a special anti-corruption unit in police.
JK stated National Police did not need to form special anti-graft squad, just like Special Detachement 88, the Indonesian Special Forces counter-terrorism squad.
He assessed KPK existance is adequate to combat corruption. He added the existence of other institutions or agencies must become as an amplifier to KPK.
Neverthless, Head of National Police Public Relations, Setyo Wasisto said it was not a problem. He asserted, police is still continuing the establishment process of Densus Tipikor.
"Yes, we will see later, because now we are still in the process to establish Densus Tipikor. And, we will wait for President's instruction," Setyo said on Wednesday (October 18).
According to Setyo, the operational budget for anti-graft Densus has been allocated. But, they have not prepared the building for its office.
