REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gatot Nurmayanto said he would still dedicating his life for Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). After officially retiring as the soldier on March 31, he said he could serve the country by running in 2019 presidential election.
"Retiring does not mean I will not do anything, but I will serve for a better future for this country, nation, as manifestation that I love Indonesia. It's in my flesh and blood," said Gatot in written statement on Monday (April 3).

He said the form of devotion to the people and nation did not always represent by carrying weapons. However, to serve the state could be done through running in the election, to be a leader of the nation.
"Starting from today, I have the same rights and obligations as son of the nation, members of civil society, and other citizens of the Republic of Indonesia, including to have the rights to vote, as well as the rights to be elected during the upcoming elections," said the former Chief of Staff of the Army.
Earlier, Gatot said he wanted to be an independent person shortly after retirement. He also wished to be able to set his schedule independently and does not need to adjust to the protocol. It has been attached to his life as TNI officers.
"So it's like a kinship meeting to the nation figures and to thanked them," Gatot added.
Then, what will he be after retiring? Gatot said he did not dare to dream. "I'm afraid of dreaming, because my dreams often came true. That's why I'm afraid to imagine what will I be after retiring," he remarked.
