REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A team of police negotiators secured the release of Chief Brigadier Iwan Sarjana held hostage by terror convicts at the detention center of the National Police's Mobile Brigade Command Station, Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java. Iwan is among the six police officers, who were held hostage by terror convicts following a riot at the detention center on Tuesday night.
"We have successfully secured the release of Iwan," Chief of the Public Relations Bureau of the National Police Headquarters Brigadier General M. Iqbal stated here on Thursday.

Iqbal revealed that Iwan had been taken to the Police Hospital in Kramatjati, East Jakarta, for intensive treatment. Meanwhile, five police officers and a terror convict were killed in the riot. The five police officers are identified as 2nd Adjunct Inspector Denny Setiadi, 1st Inspector Yudi Rospuji Siswanto, Brigadier Fandy Setyo Nugroho, 1st Brigadier Syukron Fadhli, and 1st Brigadier Wahyu Catur Pamungkas.

The police have also taken stern measures against a convict identified as Benny Syamsu for resisting arrest and snatching a firearm from a police officer.

Iqbal remarked on Wednesday that the riot broke out when several terror convicts, occupying many detention blocks, quarreled with police officers over food. "This is a matter of the police's standard operating procedure to check the food for anyone held in custody," he explained.
The food for inmates at the Brimob Command Station's detention center must be sterilized and must not contain forbidden materials, he revealed.
