REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Finance Minister Sri Mulyani will provide assistance to support the handling of Lombok earthquake, carried out by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). According to the Financial Note of the 2018 Fiscal Year, the central government spending on BNPB was recorded at Rp749.4 billion. From the budget, Rp478.1 billion was allocated in 2018 for a disaster management program.

"BNPB has been providing assistance, and we will support them by providing budget to operate quickly," Mulyani told reporters at the Defense Ministry in Jakarta on Monday.

Mulyani explained that the first phase of the focus on disaster management in Lombok was to minimize casualties through post-disaster rescue efforts.

The next stage is to identify the damage by looking at all the buildings affected by the disaster. "Similar to the earthquakes that occurred in Yogyakarta and in Padang, we will make an inventory of the government-owned buildings," she noted.

The damage to community-owned houses will be categorized into three groups, namely lightly, moderately, and severely damaged. "Later, we will calculate the compensation based on the current value," Mulyani noted.

A magnitude-7 earthquake rocked Lombok and Sumbawa Islands in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province on Sunday night, leaving 105  dead, injuring 236 others, and damaging thousand of houses. Areas which bore the brunt of the devastating earthquake were North Lombok and East Lombok Districts and Mataram city.
