REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Golkar Party politician Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita officially served as Social Affairs Minister, replacing Idrus Marham who resigned on Friday (August 24). Agus Gumiwang's inauguration was based on Presidential Decree Number 148 P year 2018 on the dismissal and appointment of Social Affairs Minister in the remaining term of office for the 2014-2019 period.
Idrus officially resigned, as he met with Jokowi at State Palace to submit his letter of resignation on Friday (August 24). His decision to resign was related to his alleged involvement in alleged Riau-1 coal-fired power plant (PLTU) construction project bribery case.
“As a form of responsibility, I submitted letter of resignation as Social Affairs Minister to president with a number of considerations,” Idrus said.
Idrus Marham submits his letter of resignation as Social Affair Minister to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday (August 24).
Idrus explained, one of his considerations to resign was to maintain the honor of president as a leader who committed to eradicate corruption. In addition, he hopes that with his decision, the case that ensnared him would no longer become a burden for president in carrying out government duties.
Idrus considered that it would be more ethical to release his position before being named as a suspect in the graft case. He said if he became a suspect, it would be morally unacceptable.
“If I become a suspect and still in my post as minister, it’s unethical and morally unacceptable,” Idrus added.
