REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Anies Rasyid Baswedan meet the summon of Bogor Regency's Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) on Monday. He denied that his two fingers pose at the National Conference of Gerindra Party in Sentul, Bogor Regency on December 17 was a form of campaign.
During the Gerindra event, Anies was seen showing his index finger and thumb while delivering his speech. He explained that the those two fingers pose did not intended to show support to presidential candidate number 02 as it was not the usual finger pose for Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno pair.
"The presidential candidates number 02 always use index and middle fingers," Anies remarked in Bawaslu office, Central Jakarta, on Monday (Jan 7).
Anies said Bawaslu grilled him with 27 questions. He explained that the point highlighted by Bawaslu of Bogor Regency was related to his thumb and index fingers pose and his speech.
"I explained to them what I said in speech, I did not add or reduce the sentences. Then I asked them to watch full version of the video," he said.
He also stressed, as a Governor, he could go to any legal activity in Indonesia. According to him, it was normal for a Governor to come to an activity organized by a political party.
Anies added that, on Friday before the event in Sentul, he had sent a letter to the Home Affairs Ministry (Kemendagri) He still informed the ministry although he said the Governor could take part in any activities, as long as he did not carry out campaign activities.
Nasional Guard for the People (GNR) filed a report to Bawaslu against Anies on alleged violation of campaign. GNR suspected that Anies has campaign during his working days when attending Gerindra event.
"It is clearly that Anies has violated campaign regulation, so there should be sanction for him," GNR spokesman Agung Wibowo Hadi said at Bawaslu office, Jakarta, on December 18, 2018.
