REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani said the government is cooperating with a number of countries, including Germany, to invite foreign teachers to teach Indonesian students.
"We will invite foreign teachers to teach us sciences," she said, while attending a national congress on development planning in Jakarta on Thursday.
The government will provide the teachers with interpreters, as well as language translating devices, she said, adding that the interested parties, including schools, had been asked to propose the type and number of foreign teachers they needed. President Joko Widodo, who was also present at the event, came up with three ways to settle the national problem before the nation celebrates 100 years of Indonesian independence.
One of the ways is to prevent Indonesia from falling into the middle-income trap by ensuring the even distribution of infrastructure development, bureaucratic reform, and human resource development. Stating that Indonesia had the potential to become the world's fourth or fifth strongest economy in 2045, he said, "It is not easy to achieve (this status). There are a lot of challenges and problems. Don't think that we will automatically become the world's fourth or fifth largest economy. Many countries fall into the middle-income trap because they fail to solve large problems. We must settle existing problems before we commemorate 100 years of Indonesian independence in 2045," he said.
"We must solve the issue of even infrastructure development, without which we are unlikely to become the world''s fourth or fifth largest economy," he said.
Bureaucratic reform must seriously be implemented by cutting licensing procedures from the central to regional governments as efficiently as possible, he said. The development of human resources is difficult to resolve. According to the latest data, 51 percent of Indonesia's labor force comprises elementary school graduates.
