REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANTUL - Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta University distributes zakat to 83 charitable institutions of Muhammadiyah Enterprises (AUM). The amount of zakat distributed to AUM amounted to IDR 1.23 billion.
UMY Rector, Prof. Gunawan Budiyanto explained that pentasyarufan zakat of this institution is regularly held every semester. For 2023, the amount of institutional zakat distributed reaches approximately Rp 3 billion.
“We hold a routine every semester, for this year a total of about IDR 3 billion. so we are part of the zakat of the institution and are transferred to the AUM of education and economics,” said Prof. Gunawan during the pentasyarufan event at AR Fakhruddin A Building, UMY Campus, Bantul Regency, Friday (15/12/2023).
This activity is a form of AUM obligation capable of performing zakat obligations. Assistance provided can be in the form of goods and infrastructure, rehabilitation of buildings, to mentoring programs especially for teacher performance.
“Usually schools that have our teacher program include in the thematic program Muhammadiyah Teaching,” explains Prof. Gunawan.
Chairman of UMY Institution's Zakat Team, Wildan Anwar added that in this year there were 321 proposals for assistance received, and after selection, 83 AUM were approved that will receive institution zakat.
“There have been 321 proposals from DIY and other provinces, but the priority standard of our area used to be, DIY. And that approved 83 proposals that our team believes deserve the zakat of the institution,” Wildan said.
In addition to money assistance, UMY also manages assistance in the form of natura (reconditioned and usable goods) that is managed as much as possible.
“We recondition usable items at UMY. For this semester there are computers, office chairs, desks, filing cabinets and more,” he explained.
UMY hopes that the zakat of the institution can be put to good use by the receiving AUM.
