REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Muslims believe in God. Muslims believe that God created the heavens and the earth and all their contents. God transcends anything man imagines.
Muslims also believe that Allah knows every leaf that falls from every tree. Muslims believe God is closer than the human pulse itself. God knows the secrets of a person's mind and everything about his being.
Therefore, the British convert, Idris Tawfiq, said the God a Muslim believes in is not just a distant god, but a god that can be talked to. Perhaps many say they want to talk to God, but do not know what to do and how to start.
Idris Tawfiq was a British convert who converted to Islam about 15 years ago. He worked as a consultant, writer and lecturer. For many years, he was head of religious education at various schools in Great Britain.
Before converting to Islam, he was a Roman Catholic priest. He died in the UK in February 2016 after a short illness. In an article published on About Islam, Idris Tawfiq discusses how to communicate with God, especially in Islam.
"How do we talk to God? If you've never talked to God before, if you've never prayed, what do you do? Well, what you do is you start talking; it's that simple you start talking: “Lord, are you there? "If you are there, listen to me. Lord if you are there, please help me. Lord if you are there, come into my life. O Allah, help me in this world." That's how we started, we just started talking," said Idris.
Thus, the first thing to do when you want to communicate with God is to start talking and feel God is very close. However, he reminded that humans or other creatures cannot control God.
Because, usually when we pray, we generally want something and want the answer directly. However, God is not like that, who directly grants the wishes of His creatures. Sometimes, God answers someone's prayer not in the expected way.
What should be done? Idris said humans must be receptive to hearing what God says to His servants. Because, praying is talking and listening, not like a conversation between two people.
