Erick Thohir Encourages Pertamina as a Global Class SOE
Pertamina continues to innovate to support energy sustainability.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- SOE Minister Erick Thohir said that global competition will be increasingly challenging. According to him, in the future the energy transition will be many extraordinary dynamics. For that as a corporation it must be ready to adapt that starts from its own human improvement.
“As an energy state-owned enterprise, Pertamina is expected to play a role as a bulwark of the national economy to strengthen corporate competition, and this should start from self-improvement,” Erick said on the occasion of the Pertamina Akhlak Festival in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/7/2024).
Furthermore, Erick also said Pertamina has established a holding and subholding in anticipation of the competitive era. “Inevitably, the supply chain is an important part of Pertamina's journey forward. This is a transformation and innovation that we have to do continuously,” explains Erick.
Erick also appreciated Pertamina's move that has now encouraged the application of Nature Based Solution (NBS). A concrete example is bioethanol which is already being done as a more environmentally friendly fuel.
Erick hopes that Pertamina will also be part of the development of the green industry. “Some time ago I was with the new Pertamina team to IKN. When the need for this IKN inevitably increases alternatives to electricity there besides hydro or solar, there is also gas. But of course we must build a green industry, an industrial area that is sustainable, green, so that later world trade competition also needs green products, things like this transition from Pertamina should be encouraged,” said Erick.
Minister Erick also wishes to Pertamina regarding carbon trading. “Carbon trading should be part of the development of a company as big as Pertamina,” he stressed.
Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati said in order to face global competition, Pertamina is preparing three steps in dealing with the challenges of the energy trilemma. First, by increasing production from the upstream sector, both from home and abroad. Secondly, optimization of gasoline, through revamping, increasing refinery capacity, to increasing additional production with a mixture of bioethanol to biogasoline, to reduce diesel imports. Third, by suppressing imports of LPG through increased production capacity, to building domestic gas networks.
Nicke added that Pertamina has also prepared a roadmap for energy transition and implemented sustainable business practices through Sustainability Policy, Strategy & Initiatives implemented throughout Pertamina Group. The aim is to make Pertamina an environmentally friendly, socially responsible and good corporate governance company.
In addition, Pertamina continues to innovate to support national energy sustainability and also to prepare for global energy challenges through strategic initiatives.
Pertamina also contributes to sustainable development by preparing the company for the utilization of Nusantara Sustainability in the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) in synergy with stakeholders, this is also part of Pertamina's steps in facing competition to the global level.
Pertamina, as a leader in the field of energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target by continuing to promote programs that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of these efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) across Pertamina's business lines and operations.
