KLHK Confiscated Protected Birds

The ministry will address the dealer strictly.

Dalam rangka memperingati HUT ke-38 Rimbawan, Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BBKSDA) Papua Barat melepas liarkan sejumlah satwa dilindungi hasil sitaan maupun penyerahan sukarela masyarakat, agar satwa endemik Papua dapat kembali ke habitatnya.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Joint Operation Team of land and forest law enforcement division (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara (Jabalnusra) with Conservation of Natural Resources (BKSDA) Bali, Bali National Police, and Indonesian Army (TNI) are confiscating 24 birds that are under protected list. They are also prosecuting Mr. INS (47) im Desa Kartika Plasa Street, GG Manga BR Anyar, Kuta, Bali, on 21 April 2021. 

The confiscated birds are: 2 Salmon-crested cockatoos, 8 Yellow-crested cockatoos, 7 Eclectus parrot, 2 Black-capped lory, 3 Black-winged starlings, and 2 Bali myna. These protected birds are then entrusted to Tabanan Wildlife Conservation. The team has submitted the case to investigator from Balai Gakkum in Jabalnusra for further investigation.

Head of Balai Gakkum in Jabalnusra, Muhammad Nur, said on the press release on Thursday (22/4) that investigators are still studying the case to seek for the trade network of the protected animals.

Director of Forest Prevention and Security Affairs of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Sustyo Iriyono, said that the ministry will address the dealer strictly. “We are also urge people to monitor and watch closely the trade of protected animals and report them to Balai Gakkum or BKSDA,” Sustyo said.

Sustyo adds, “We are hand in hand intensively with several agencies, authorities, and people to decrease illegal trade and hunt of protected species in Indonesia.”

The subjects are facing Article 21 Clause 2 a Jo. Artikel 40 Clause 3, Laws Jumber 5/1990 on Conservation of Natural Resources and its Ecosystem, which shall be punishable by a prison sentence of a maximum period of 5 years and fine up to IDR 100 million.

This joint operation is initiated by people’s input, then followed by data and information gathering, which is started from 19 April 2021. From the data, the dealer was found in Desa Kartika Plasa Street, GG Manga, BR Anyar, Kuta, Bali. The Joint Operation was conducted on 21 April 2021.
