REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin reminds young generations of Islam to make the Quran and Hadith a guide to life. According to him, the passion of the younger generation towards technology should not make the younger generation of Islam abandon the Quran.
“I ask the young generation of Indonesian Muslims not to abandon the Quran and Hadith as a guide to life. The craze for technology should not occupy all our attention,” Kiai Ma'ruf was quoted as saying on Tuesday (31/10/2023).
Kiai Ma'ruf also hopes that the younger generation of Muslims will become a Generation of Qur'ani who are not only able to read the Quran, but can practice it in everyday life. “But of course, what is meant to read and teach here is not just reading letter by letter, with tajwid and qiro'ah, but rather we have to learn its meaning and put it into practice in everyday life,” he said.
The Chairman of the Council for Consideration of the Indonesian Ulama Assembly (MUI) said that the results of the survey of the Indonesian Quran literacy index for 2023 organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs have reached the number 66 or high category. He also encourages this level of literacy to continue to be improved amid the development of technology and the flow of digital information.
“I believe that the challenge that is growing today demands an ever stronger Qurani Generation. The Qurani generation is a development capital that needs to be constantly built to bring progress to the nation and the country,” he said.
Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas also stressed the importance of Quran and Hadith literacy for ummah. For this reason, the Quran Facilities Development Institute (LPTQ) must play its part. “The LPTQ we know is the vanguard in strengthening the literacy of the Quran and Hadith among the people, while the LPTQ is part of the state's policy in supporting national development,” Yaqut said.
He also encouraged the LPTQ and various related parties to continue preparing a roadmap for strengthening the literacy of Quran and Hadith. According to him, LPTQ should be a locomotive of literacy into a center of continuous activities to promote a deeper understanding of scripture and Hadith.
“So not only is it limited to organizing STQ (Selection of Quran Tilawatil) or MTQ (Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran) events, the role of LPTQ is very broad in the activities of grounding the Quran and Hadith,” he said.
